I’ve been so busy these past few weeks that I’ve completely abandoned the blog…
weekend we are installing a new database server and hopefully things
will speed up. Right now (at 7 o’clock GTM+1) ADOOS servers are at
hitting the 100% CPU limit!
The new machine
is an IBM x346 with RAID 5 and 2 Intel CPUs (3GHz I think). We are
migrating to Debian with MySQL 4 to take advantage of the new search
functions of MySQL (before we were using Red Hat 7.2 with MySQL 3). We
are now going to start using RAID 5 to store the data and this gives me
some peace of mind as I will not have to backup the photos so often.
RAID 5 has fault tolerance to a single HD failure.
two CPUs will also enables us to launch a pay-per-click (PPC) bidding
services for advertisers that want to pay a little bit extra to receive
more visibility. The bid calculations are very CPU intensive!
